tell me about it. what is it called, does it revolve? is it a myth? i thought the elevator to the top was not open to the public.

No. There is no public access to the top of the Transamerica Building. There never has been, and now, since there was a terrorist threat against that building shortly after September 11, access to the entire building has been tightened up even more.



There used to be a restaurant down at ground level, but that location has never done well financially for some reason, and I'm pretty sure it is closed now.



You might be thinking of the restaurant at the top of the Embarcadero Hyatt. Formerly called Equinox, it is the only skytop restaurant in SF that revolves. OK to go check it out for a cocktail, but not worth eating there, since it is mostly a tourist attraction the food is really awful.



You can get fairly decent skytop dining at Top of the Mark or the Carnelian Room (top of the Bank of America Tower), but they don't revolve.

I remember eating in a restaurant at the top of the TransAmerica Building in 1985. It was great but sounds like it has long since closed.

No. There's a restaurant in the building, but it's near the bottom.
